ABSTRACT: This paper describes the behaviour of tube
expanding stress in Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger, thereby,
This analysis has been introduced to predict the tube
failure and life cycle during heat exchanger operation for
long term and shot term period basis of tube reduction rate
in expanding area. Especially, tube expanded area is the
most vulnerable for tube thermal stress failure due to
induced vibration of flow in tube inside and outside
therefore, this study was performed to get how to decide
the required tube expanding rate and tube thickness for
each design condition as well as, tube material properties
considering the tube expectancy life. Finally, this paper
shows the importance of tube expanding stress in Shell-Tube
Heat Exchanger that is the major cause of tube failure
mechanism.
